How to design a book cover in Microsoft Word?
Microsoft Word is not for designing covers! However, you can still use it to design a simple book cover. For designing a book cover, you need to know the following things:
- Final trim size of your book (i.e., 5×8, 6×9, etc.)
- Total number of pages in your book
- Check if you’re using cream or white paper (standard paper)
- Decide the binding type, i.e., hardcover or paperback

How do I actually save it as a pdf? The margins are off for an 8 1/2 x 11. It is chopped off inside the pdf viewer. Thank you.
Please use Ms Word’s built-in option “Save as PDF” for converting into PDF. Everything will then look fine, thank you.

I am a novice to this bookcover projects. I have two books published but I needed help for the covers of both books. I wish to learn this so I do not have to depend on others to do something I should know how to do myself. I am a retired female and writing is what I love doing. Thanks, Niti! Microsoft Word’s “Save As” also produces print-ready & high-res PDF. However, if you need some advanced options for print production of PDF then virtually printing it through the “Print” dialog box would definitely be a best choice, thank you.
